Biotechnology Services

Sanger DNA Sequencing

DNA sequence information is of fundamental importance and is required by most research programs at St. Jude. The Hartwell Center offers Sanger Big Dye Terminator Sequencing in support of more than 100 research programs and sequences over 250,000 templates per year.

Genome Sequencing

The Genome Sequencing Lab supports massive parallel sequencing projects using the Illumina GAIIx and Roche FLX platforms. Services include experiment consultation, library preparation (Roche FLX only), sample processing, data acquisition, and sequence alignment. Analyses include genome annotation, SNP and indel detection, and expression summarization.

Genotyping

The Genotyping lab provides analysis of Minisatellite and Microsatellite, genomic insertions and deletions, SNP and DNA copy number detection. The laboratory also offers and DNA methylation quantification, DNase footprinting, Surveyor low-frequency mutation detection, RFLP analysis, and other assays, e.g. ABI SNaPshot multiplex system.

Macromolecular Synthesis

The Macromolecular Synthesis Lab offers on-site synthesis of custom biopolymers. Peptide synthesis offers standard and modified peptides, coupled peptides, peptide nucleic acids and peptoids. Oligonucleotide synthesis offers standard and special chemistry oliogonucleotides (incuding TaqMan probes) as well an inventory of stock sequencing primers.

Proteomics & Mass Spectrometry

The Proteomics & Mass Spectrometry laboratory provides protein expression analysis, protein identification, intact mass measurement of proteins and peptides, analysis of post-translational modifications as well as quantitative proteomics. Services include initial consultation in experimental design, sample processing, acquisition of raw data and data analysis.

Molecular Interaction Analysis

The Molecular Interaction Analysis laboratory provides quantitative characterization of proteins and protein interactions on surfaces (Surface Plasmon Resonance) and in solution (Analytical Ultracentrifugation and Multi-angle Light Scattering). These technologies offer an extensive range of analyses including real-time biomolecular interaction analysis, as well as size-and-shape distribution and interactions of protein complexes in solution.

Functional Genomics

The Functional Genomics Lab provides customizable microarray services for analysis of gene expression, miRNA analysis and Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH). Services include array design and printing, sample processing, data acquisition and analysis. The laboratory also supports several commercial platforms, e.g. Agilent and Nimblegen.

CACT - Affymetrix Microarray Analysis

The Clinical Applications Core Technology (CACT) laboratory provides state of the art Affymetrix GeneChip® technology for analysis of gene expression, gene regulation, and genetic variation (SNP and CNV analysis). The laboratory offers both single sample analysis on cartridges or multi-sample analysis using PEG arrays on the GeneTitan system. Services include experiment consultation, sample processing, data acquisition and analysis.
