IBM
p650
To achieve our research goals, we have installed the world's most powerful midrange server, the new IBM eServer p650 system as our production Oracle Database server. This system, running AIX with 6, 1.45GHz cpu's and 24GB of memory is capable of 1,178 Oracle transactions per second. There is a duplicate system which will act as a test, Development /QA/Staging and Failover server.
IBM Blade Server
280 2.4GHz/400MHz Xeon Processors, 2GB memory per blade
For cpu-intensive applications in bioinformatics, structural
biology, radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging, etc.
WEB LOGIC Server
As
a cornerstone of the integrated, enterprise-class applications
developed in the Hartwell Center we have installed an IBM
x365 as our server of choice for Web Logic. This system has
4, 3.0GHz Zeon processors, 16GB memory and is installed with
Red Hat Linux. This combination of hardware and software
will allow us to deliver web services much
more quickly by transforming the process through which enterprises
make connections with one another.
We will use an IBM x335 as the Web Logic Test/Development system. The x335 is an ultradense 2-way SMP server that delivers exceptional performance and manageability. High-level features include:
- Dual Intel® Xeon™ Processors, (2) 2.8GHz
- Integrated system management
- Ultra 320 SCSI with integrated RAID 1 (mirroring)
- Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports
- 4 GB Memory
The x335 is engineered to streamline escalating Web application environments into operations environments.
Storage
Our storage capacity has increased dramatically to 36TB with the purchase and installation of the ATABeast disk vault. This storage vault easily handles the largest files. Massive video and audio archives can be stored and instantly accessed for play-on-demand applications.
The
enterprise class features of the ATABeast disk vault
enable large file repositories for thousands of users
to be stored on a single system. The high IOPS
(input/output operations per second) performance
of the ATAbeast makes it perfect for our datacenter.
L180 tape library
With up to 174 slots and 34.8 terabytes of native capacity, the StorageTek® L180 tape library is ideal for mid-size and larger distributed, Open Systems, UNIX and Windows NT environments. This automated tape library features a high-speed native two gigabit Fibre Channel interface for faster data sharing and use in storage area networks.
