This application will serve as a manuscript tracking (pre and post publication) system. It will also track the usage of Shared Resources in scientific publications published by St Jude investigators. Users will be able to view, edit (controlled by role-based access), and generate reports on St Jude publications as well as Shared Resource usage in support of those publications. The system will also provide export capabilities that enable users to export data into Reference Manager and EndNote applications.
It is anticipated that the information maintained here will be useful for Shared Resource Directors and others when they prepare periodic grant renewals and other kinds of reports.
TERANODE® XDA Design Suite (TDS) is a graphical environment produced by the Teranode Corporation (http://www.teranode.com), which is used to build protocols for automation or biological models for simulation with drag-and-drop ease. The Hartwell Center is currently using this product as a Lab Information Management System (LIMS) for the Proteomics shared resource. Teranode also provides a Software Development Kit (SDK), which is an open and extensible framework we use for tailoring TDS to our specific requirements. These customizations are packaged and deployed in the form of "plug-ins." Plug-ins that have been developed by the Hartwell Center Software Development Team (SDT) include, but are not limited to:
- Work Request Tracking
- Integration with SRM Billing
- Data importers for various tables generated by Nonlinear Dynamics Progenesis™ software
- Data importers for protein identification reports generated by Applied Biosystems GPS Explorer™ software
- Sample Freezer Location Tracking
The Hartwell Center SDT is currently developing plugins to automate archival of data generated by the Proteomics shared resource to our enterprise data archive.
Another related project currently under development is a Lab Management Dashboard application which will facilitate the day-to-day management of the Proteomics shared resource by interogating the Teranode Model Server database and providing user customizable views of active and finished projects within the lab. This application will extend an open source protocol manager application developed by Teranode using Apache Struts (http://struts.apache.org).
LabAlert is an online Alarmed Equipment Database tracking system with the following capabilities:
- provides an updated list of alarm points, equipment identification, and contacts to allow the Central Energy Plant (CEP) to rapidly respond to alarms and make the required notification when valuable research material is at risk following failure of a freezer, refrigerator, incubator or environmental room.
- allows Principle Investigators to maintain an accurate inventory of alarmed freezers, refrigerators and incubators owned by their labs - to allow pinpointing their locations and easily update equipment data and contact lists
- provides an approved-for-purchase equipment list to allow purchasers to know which equipment is supported by in-house maintenance and which are authorized for placement in dedicated DTRC Freezer Rooms.
Shared Resource Management (SRM) System
Amongst other things, the Hartwell Center (HC) runs Biotechnology Labs that perform various kinds of experiments for the St Jude Research Community. Currently, there are thirteen services including DNA Sequencing, Genotyping, Macromolecular Synthesis, Microarray Gene Expression Analysis, Proteomics Analysis and Mass Spectrometry. provided by six labs in the Center. Keeping track of all the samples, processes, workflow's and interactions with end users (investigators) can be quite overwhelming for lab staff and management as well as investigators.
The SRM project attempts to automate process management within the Hartwell Center Biotechnology Labs as well as the interaction between the labs and the St Jude Research community. It enables St Jude Investigators to use a web browser from their desktop to place orders for the services provided by HC labs, track the status of those orders and retrieve relevant data generated by those services. SRM also enables HC laboratory staff, using a web browser, to retrieve orders and sample information submitted by investigators, initiate and track processes and workflow's on samples, manipulate and archive resulting data. SRM also tracks Billing information and related processes. The system is based on six main subsystems:
- Online Ordering
- Online Order Tracking
- Sample and Workflow Management Tracking
- Data Processing, Archiving and Retrieval
- Messaging
- Billing and Reporting
