Software Development Team
The Software/Database Development team of Bioinformatics/Research Computing was established to produce research-specific applications and databases in support of St. Jude research programs. To facilitate this process we have assembled a team of programmers, web developers, and database programmers and have put into place a superb development environment with the appropriate software and hardware (development, staging and production servers) to facilitate the process. Examples of recent projects include: TrakIt, Teranode Customization, LabAlert, and SRM (more info on these projects can be found here).
Development of quality software is a complex process. It is useful to have formally approved and documented procedures that describe steps leading to the creation of applications with required functionality within defined time frames. However, in a research environment such as ours, the need for such a process must be balanced with the need for frequent changes of direction and many short-term projects. We are committed to the employment of the minimum set of procedures that will keep us effective, without jeopardizing our responsiveness to the needs of St Jude Researchers in particular, and the institution as a whole. We operate under three broad categories: Applications Development, Software Integration, Software Support, and Maintenance .
